Zones of Azeroth

World of Warcraft consists of various areas that players can explore called Zones. Each zone has a unique feeling and atmosphere, with its own set of creatures, quests and lore. Player's are not limited to just exploring Azeroth either, as the game has developed more and more places to explore over the years, entire new worlds, continents and even dimensions players can enter and experience.

Azeroth is the main world of the game. The planet consists of several continents, each explorable by the player. The Horde primarily controls Kalimdor, with the Alliance having sovereignty over the Eastern Kingdoms. There are a variety of neutral areas that neither faction has complete control over as well. Outside of Azeroth, players can explore Outland, the homeland of the Orcs, as well as Draenor, an alternate version of Outland. Or travel to the realm of the dead called the Shadowlands and so much more.

Dungeons and Raids

Dungeons are smaller, contained areas where players can team up to defeat bosses, level up and collect loot. Dungeons are often tied into not only gameplay, but the lore of World of Warcraft. Raids are larger, more challenging encounters that require coordination among a larger group of players. Raids are pivotal moments in the story that players complete in order to defeat major expansion antagonists or tie up loose ends for quests. World of Warcraft currently has over 70 dungeons and over 50 raids. Dungeons and Raids still remain a core part of the game even after the expansion has passed, with collectors completing dungeons to collect rare items, such as weapons, armor, mounts and toys as well as item appearances to customize their characters and show off.

Other Activities Players Can Enjoy

Outside of questing, raiding, dungeons, or exploring, players can engage in a variety of other activities. Many spend time collecting mounts, pets, and transmog gear to customize their characters and complete ingame achievements. Others engage in Player vs Player combat through battlegrounds, arenas, and open world skirmishes. Professions allow players to gather materials, craft items, or make gold on the auction house. Or some can socialize, participating in roleplaying, community events, or seasonal festivals that change throughout the year. These additional activities offer alternate ways to progress, express creativity, or simply relax while experiencing the world at a different pace.
